¤ Extremely rare first edition of this beautiful map of Swaben, including Ulm, Augsburg, Stuttgart, Zurich, Lucerne and Lake Constance. Jodocus Hondius Jr. planned to produce a new modern atlas less dependent on the Mercator plates that his father had acquired in 1604. It would make sense that he considered putting together 'ad hoc collections' of the maps already cut to stimulate further interest. According to van der Krogt "only six of these collections are known today. One of them has a letterpress title "Atlantis Maioris Appendix" and was made up by Jodocus or his widow in mid 1629 to be displayed in the autumn of 1629 at the Frankfurt book fair as a continuation of the great Mercator atlas. On Jodocus death on August 18, 1629, this among 39 other Hondius copper plates were purchased by Willem Blaeu who deleted Hondius' name and added his own to the imprint. Blaeu published immediately 34 of them as part of his first atlas. This is the rare first state of which Peter van der Krogt list only 5 other copies in his updated Atlantes Neerlandici. Title, scale and place names in Ottoman Turkish. Lower right inset of Corsica. The atlas was an annex to a geographical book called "Icaletü-Cografya". The atlas is an Ottoman translation of William Faden's atlas. The project was meant to be a prestige project for the Ottoman Palace and it had the seal of approval of the then Sultan-Sultan Selim III. The Plates were made in Vienna, The maps were printed at the Engineer's School Printing Press, which was operating between 1776-1826. The atlas is dated 1803 and only 50 copies were printed. ¤ Covering southern part of the river Rhine and start of the Danube. Including the towns of Frankfurt, Ingolstadt, Basle, Spier, Trier, etc. Engraved by R.Cordier Abbauil. Nicolas Sanson was to bring about the rise of French cartography, although the fierce competition of the Dutch would last until the end of the century. His success was partly owing to the partnership with the publisher Pierre Mariette. In 1644 the latter had purchased the business of Melchior Tavernier, and helped Sanson with financial support in producing the maps. In 1657 Pierre Marriette died, however his son, also named Pierre, co-published "Les Cartes Générales de toutes les parties du Monde." the following year. It was the first folio French produced world atlas.

¤ Extremely rare first edition of this beautiful map of Elbe and Hamburg. This is the rare first state of which Peter van der Krogt list only 4 other copies in his updated Atlantes Neerlandici. ¤ Impressive view of 3 meters of the town of Lübeck. The lithography was made after a woodbock engraving by Elias Diebel, originally made in 1552. Of the original woodblock print only a 2 examples are known to exsist. The Germanischen National museum in Nürnberg has a coloured example of the first impression, and the British Library has an example of the second imprint of 1574. John. Geffcken, bought in 1843, from the heritage of senator J.G.Mönckeberg in Hamburg an example of the second edition. In 1855 he asked the Hamburg printer Chr.Fuchs, to produce a lithographic imprint of his copy. In 1881 another reproduction was made by Weigel in Leipzig, this time the print was madeup of 24 woodblock prints. The example of John. Geffcken was bought in 1870 by the British Library, due to its large format most copies must have lost as they where used as decoration and not bound in a book. The present lithographic imprint of 1855 is very rare, especialy in original gouache colours. The wood block print of 1881 turns up on the marcket once a while. Very impressive decorative piece. - Sahlmann

¤ Fine map of south eastern part of France and part of Switzerland. Centered on Basle and the Alps. This edition carries the date 1652. With manuscript number in upper right corner.
