This Homann map is finely engraved, and in original wash colour with a coloured cartouche. Johann Baptist Homann's well-engraved map has a large decorative cartouche. Detailed map of the south-western part of Poland covering the towns of Legnica, Wroclaw, Opole,etc. Johann Baptist Homann (1663-1724) was a German engraver and publisher, who established himself and his family as perhaps the most famous German map publishers. Following his death in 1724, the business continued under the name "Homann Heirs".

Margins in upper left and right-hand corners re-inforced. From the greatest publication in this genre!. The "Civitates" was compiled and written by George Braun, Canon of Cologne Cathedral. Braun gathered together vast amounts of information and draft plans to produce over 500 city views/maps published in six parts between 1572 and 1617. Most of these engravings were made by Simon Novellanus and Frans Hogenberg, many after drawings by Joris Hoefnagel.
