Shortly after the publication of the big folio-atlases the need was apparently felt for a smaller-sized atlas, one that would be handier and above all, cheaper.
The Atlas Minor was larger in format than other small atlases available at the time allowing for significantly greater detail and more place names than found in its rivals.

Showing Poitiers, Limoges, Nantes, La Rochelle and also Bouin, Noirmoutier, Dieu, Ré and Oléron islands. Embellished with a title cartouche, a scale cartouche, a beautiful wind rose and three sailing ships. Nicolas Tassin, who was active from 1633 till 1655, was appointed "royal cartographe"' at Dijon before setting up as an engraver in Paris where he issued various collections of small maps and plans of France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
