This example is unusual in having the additional separately engraved decorative framework border around the map, the resultant visual effect being particularly striking. The frame border was prepared with a blank centre so that the map could be over-printed on that area.

En 1731 il hérita une grande quantité de plaques de cuivre de son père Jean Crepy. Son adresse parisienne était située rue Saint-Jacques au quartier Latin. - Vue of the French town of Reims, including a key list at the bottom. Etienne Louis Crepy (c.1700-1759) was active as an engraver and publisher atrue St. Jacques a St. Pierre in Paris. He was specializing in maps and geographical prints.
In 1731 he acquired the stock of copper plates of topographical content from his father Jean Crepy.

Chéreau, graveur de talent, est né en 1680 à Blois. Il est l'élève de Gérard Audran et Pierre Drevet. En 1718, il acquiert les cuivres de son maître. A sa mort en 1729, les cuivres furent vendus par sa veuve. Son frère Jacques le Jeune est également graveur et éditeur. Panoramic view of the city of Châlons-en-Champagne, including a numbered legend in both lower corners. The plate is numbered in black pencil in upper right corner. Published by J. Chéreau, active in Paris at rue St. Jacques au Grand St. Remy .
Franqois Chéreau was born in 1680 in Blois, it is unknown when he settled in Paris. He was student of Gérard Audran and Pierre Drevet. In 1718 he acquired the stock of copperplates and prints of his tutor Gérard Audran. He was a very talented engraver. After his death in 1729 the copperplates were sold by his widow. His brother Jacques (le jeune) (1688-1776) was also engravers and publisher and worked for one year in England. He was well known as engraver of portraits.
Very rare print with a high standard of engraving.
