Condition: Map cleaned and restored, some scratches of the surface, center fold reinforced, impression faded. Added margin on the left border with collector's stamp on verso "Novacco Perna".

Description

The second state of the map of the Kingdom of Naples is oriented to the northeast—orientation with the name of the four winds TRAMONTANA, OSTRO, PONENTE, LEVANTE.
At the bottom, in the center, a compass highlights the Miles scale. Anonymous map, without date or editorial indications. This is a replica of the Kingdom of Naples by Ziletti of 1557 and its derivations. From a cartographic point of view, it appears to be a true copy of the Lafreri map, with very small differences in the toponyms, such as the omission of the thalassonym in the Ionian Sea, which on the Lafreri map is indicated as TEMPLE OF JUPITER.
The element that distinguishes it most is the curious representation of Sicily as a small island, which goes from the Messina Lighthouse to Etna and Capo d'Orlando. The title, inserted in the cartouche at the top, is detached from the Gargano promontory, unlike the Lafreri map.

The Librairie was founded in 1958 by Louis Loeb-Larocque. Originally, he arrived in France from Germany shortly after World War II. He started an antiquarian map and book shop in Paris, specializing in early maps, atlases, travel books, and prints. The shop was located at Rue Le Peletier until 1996, and was frequently visited by collectors and fellow dealers from all parts of the world.

At present, the office is located at 31 rue de Tolbiac in Paris in the lively 13th district, a 5-minute walk from the Bibliothéque Nationale de France (Metro Line 14)

Visitors are welcome to our shop by appointment, Monday through Friday.
