Description

Original lithograph advertising planisphere card board from AIR France. The map is designed by Lucien Boucher and is in fact a reduced version of his larger format poster. This map illustrates the airline’s services to various international destinations. Each destination is designated by easily recognizable illustrations of widely-known landmarks of that country, or other stereotypical images by which the destination country would be identified, with the Americas with stylized indigenous American Indians, Australia with ostriches and Asia with exotic Garuda barges, tigers and temples.

The poster has always occupied a special place in Air France's communication. With a heritage of more than 1,500 posters by the most prestigious illustrators and artists, the Company has one of the richest collections in the world.
Air France uses well-known posters like Savignac, Solon and Cassandre, for example, the Company also innovates by turning to recognized artists such as Cocteau, Mathieu, Brenet, Picart Ledoux or Vasarely.

Lucien Boucher is a commercial poster artist and illustrator born in Chartres in 1889 and died in 1971. The value of any rare book, atlas, globe, print, or map is affected by many factors: its rarity, condition, binding, provenance, and the significance of any inscriptions it may contain. Béatrice Loeb-Larcque, an expert and member of the Syndicat Français des Experts Professionnels en Œuvres d'Art et Objets de Collection, provides a free appraisal if you are considering selling. We provide auction estimates based on photographs sent via the Internet. These estimates are not for valuation purposes and are subject to revision upon inspection of the object. It is impossible to provide verbal estimates by telephone, nor can we respond to requests sent without a photo.
There is no easy answer to this question. Some books or maps have, without question, appreciated considerably in value over the years.
Others have remained steadily desirable without seeing a significant rise in price, and still others can be purchased for little money but give great personal satisfaction.
Librairie Loeb-Larocque, with 60 years of experience in the rare map and book trade, can help you decide what kind of collection you would like to build.
