Condition: Colour lithography. Printed on thick paper. Some light marginal staining and spotting. Paper on a few places with Knicks, mainly in upper part. Paper size : 590 x 900mm.

Colour lithographed plate showing the Paris World Exhibition grounds of 1878, showing the Champ-de-Mars and Trocadero, in the heart of the capital.
Lithographed by A.Cheneveau, and printed by Becquet. To the left the large rectangle main building that contained perpendicular galleries checkerboard shaped to classify products by nature in a side and by nation in the other side. Foreign sections are focused on rue des Nations where each frontage from Alhambra to chalet Suisse present national architecture.
On the other side of the Seine River, Davioud and Bourdais were in charge of building a vast palace dedicated to congresses and shows. This palace blends hispano-moorish and roman-byzantine influences.

In 1878 The United States are much more represented than in the past, diffusing their model of democracy, supposed to promote the triumph of inventive and autodidact man. There is a stronger influence of Japan and China explained by the growing interest for Oriental Art, particularly Japanese one. Exhibition had 16 million visitors. It has been considered as a success.

The Librairie was founded in 1958 by Louis Loeb-Larocque. Originally, he arrived in France from Germany shortly after World War II. He started an antiquarian map and book shop in Paris, specializing in early maps, atlases, travel books, and prints. The shop was located at Rue Le Peletier until 1996, and was frequently visited by collectors and fellow dealers from all parts of the world.

At present, the office is located at 31 rue de Tolbiac in Paris in the lively 13th district, a 5-minute walk from the Bibliothéque Nationale de France (Metro Line 14)

Visitors are welcome to our shop by appointment, Monday through Friday.

We provide auction estimates based on photographs sent via the Internet. These estimates are not for valuation purposes and are subject to revision upon inspection of the object. It is impossible to provide verbal estimates by telephone, nor can we respond to requests sent without a photo.

There is no easy answer to this question. Some books or maps have, without question, appreciated considerably in value over the years.
Others have remained steadily desirable without seeing a significant rise in price, and still others can be purchased for little money but give great personal satisfaction.
