Detailed map of southern France centred on Montpellier and the Gulf of Lion. It encompasses the region from the Spanish border as far as the Provence. The map is densely engraved with information with particular emphasis on the fortified cities, which are coloured in red. The large title cartouche features putti and a river god and goddess. It presents a compass rose.
The map is from a Dutch edition of De L'Isle's work entitled, Atlas Nouveau, Contenant Toutes Les Parties Du Monde, Ou sont exactement Remarquées les Empires, Monarchies, Royaumes, Etats, Republiques &c.
