[The Cure]. An uncoloured lithograph produced in Paris highlighting the woes of a young maiden, lying distraught in bed as a maid or servant comes to her bedside with a pierced chair and a large syringe/clyster, possibly in order to administer an enema. A younger sister or member of the house looks in in wonder and awe at the scene before her.
The costume looks Dutch, and the furniture 18th century.
There is an inscription below the image, printed: "The lover was wise, he presented for her / What Brunel showed to Marphise..
