Condition: Lithography, laid down on canvas. Some light spotting, a few closed tears with some retouches to some areas. Image in center part slightly faded. Never the less in very acceptable condition for such rare early poster.

Description

Johann von Stein made this iconic poster for the Rotterdam Lloyd in 1930. This is the rare French version for the tour from Rotterdam to Australia.
Johann von Stein (Dutch, 1896–1965) studied in Delft and became head of the design studio of the printing company Rotagravure in Leiden, where he designed posters and programs. Von Stein has also designed a lot for the weekly magazine "De Reclame". Outside of his work for Rotagravure and weekly magazine "De Reclame”, he was best known as an art and portrait painter.
He made posters for Philips, AVRO, the ANWB, Avifauna and the municipality of Naarden. He is most known for his Rotterdam Lloyd posters, which are now-a-days sought after and rare.
