Description

- A detailed map of southern France. The title cartouche at the top left hand corner is decorated with bunches of fruit. Rivers, mountain ranges and forests are shown. Le Clerc was one of the fourth generation of a family of booksellers and printers. Taking refuge in Tours with his family after trouble in Liege, he worked with M. Bouguereau, plates from whose "Theatre" formed the core of his own atlas.
A note to this effect appears in the bottom left-hand corner of this example. Le Clerc died in 1621 or 1622, but his atlas continued to be published after his death, bearing the address of his widow.
