Description

A risqué but delightful French engraving produced in the late eighteenth century. It is simply titled The Curious, and shows a young lady lying on her side on a divan, with her skirt and underclothes pulled up to reveal her bottom, in order for her maid or servant to administer an enema to her.
Behind the maid or servant we see a gentleman pulling aside a portion of curtain in order to discreetly observe proceedings.
An enema, also known as a clyster, is an injection of fluid into the lower bowel by way of an injection.
