Carte en 4 feuilles du canal du Languedoc. En 1768, François Garipuy (1711-1782) présenta aux Etats 171 feuilles et en 1769, 399 cartes à la main détaillant toute l'étendue du Canal. Des copies des originaux furent faites sur des échelles réduites et remises au graveur parisien Chalmandrier, qui s'engagea, en juin 1771, à graver les trois cartes et à les livrer en trois ans, à 200 exemplaires chacune. "La première de ces cartes, la Carte générale du Canal royal de la Province de Languedoc, sortit effectivement à la fin de 1771, à l'échelle d'une ligne pour 100 toises ou 1/86.400.

Le canal du Midi ou canal des Deux-Mers est un canal qui relie la Garonne à la mer Méditerranée. Il fournit, avec le canal latéral à la Garonne, une voie navigable de l'Atlantique à la mer Méditerranée. Il a été prolongé par le canal du Rhône à Sète. D'abord nommé canal royal en Languedoc, les révolutionnaires le rebaptisent en canal du Midi en 1789. Il fut considéré par ses contemporains comme le plus grand chantier du XVIIe siècle.
Au sens strict, le canal du Midi désigne la partie initialement réalisée, de Toulouse à la Méditerranée, du projet de canal des Deux-Mers, ensemble des voies navigables permettant de joindre la Méditerranée et l'Atlantique : le canal du Midi et la Garonne, plus ou moins navigable entre Toulouse et Bordeaux, puis le canal latéral à la Garonne, construit par la suite, et l'estuaire de la Gironde après Bordeaux.
C'est le commerce du blé qui motiva sa construction. Construit de 1666 à 1681, sous le règne de Louis XIV et sous la supervision de Pierre-Paul Riquet, le canal du Midi est l'un des plus anciens canaux d'Europe encore en fonctionnement (le prototype même étant le canal de Briare). La mise en œuvre de cet ouvrage est étroitement liée à la question de la navigation fluviale aux temps modernes. Le défi, relevé par Pierre-Paul Riquet, était d'acheminer l'eau de la Montagne Noire jusqu'au seuil de Naurouze, le point le plus élevé du parcours.

Depuis 1996, il est classé dans la liste du patrimoine de l'humanité par l'UNESCO.

The Librairie was founded in 1958 by Louis Loeb-Larocque. Originally, he arrived in France from Germany shortly after World War II. He started an antiquarian map and book shop in Paris, specializing in early maps, atlases, travel books, and prints. The shop was located at Rue Le Peletier until 1996, and was frequently visited by collectors and fellow dealers from all parts of the world.
At present, the office is located at 31 rue de Tolbiac in Paris in the lively 13th district, a 5-minute walk from the Bibliothéque Nationale de France (Metro Line 14).
We welcome visitors to our shop by appointment, Monday through Friday.

The date and place mentioned in our catalog is the date when the item was made and published. Where the publishing date is approximate, then c. (circa) is used.

Parcels are shipped by DHL or registered mail and must be signed for. Insurance is included.
- We charge a flat shipping fee of 15 euros for shipments within France for shipments up to one kg.
- For parcels shipped within Europe, a flat 25,00 euros is charged.
-For shipments outside of Europe, the postal fee is 25.00 euros for the USA and Asia
- 45.00 euros for Africa and Australia for parcels up to one kg. Heavier parcels are shipped at a nominal postal fee.
