Description
Map of France with figures on three sides with views of cities, portraits (Henri IV and Marie de Medicis) and costumes. The map was directly influenced by the 1607 folio map of Willem Jansz (Blaeu). To the left of the plinth is a cartouche with two bar scales. The cartouche is crowned by an open pair of compasses with an hour glass and a circular clock with Roman numerals and a skull in the center surrounded by flames. These items are characteristic symbols for the vanitas idea and also allude to Van de Keere's name.
The map has decorative borders on three sides representing town views, portraits and costumes.
