Description

A re-issue of the Hondius' plate. A particularly decorative map of the North Pole with Iceland. Several Dutch names in Labrador. The toponymy in Canada reflects the continuing English quest for the Northwest Passage and using Henry Briggs' depiction of Hudson Bay, showing a pair of bays in the bottom of Hudson Bay named Iames his Bay and The Great Bay of God's Deliverance.
There are more names based on Hudson's explorations, including the note of Ne Ultra in an inlet at the top of the bay indicating that it does not continue from that point. In the four corners are vignette scenes depicting whaling. ¤
