Description

From a rare Spanish text edition. Very fine map of Flanders, after Gerard Mercator's map of 1540. Copper engraving with Spanish text on verso. From the last edition of Ortelius' Atlas in 1612, Spanish text. Abraham Ortelius [Ortel, Ortell, Oertel, Wortels], (1527-1598) was a cartographer and publisher, who is born and died in Antwerp. Published first modern uniform Atlas, "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" (Atlas of the Whole World). Very attractive original colours.
