Description
Rare original vintage travel advertising poster for Cunard White Star, the fastest Ocean Service in the World.
Stunning Art Deco style illustration of the two majestic flagship transatlantic ocean liners, the RMS Queen Mary and the RMS Queen Elizabeth, sailing towards the viewer at speed on the blue sea with the Chrysler Building skyscraper dominating the New York city view in the background below the stylized title.
The joint British shipping line Cunard-White Star Line Ltd was founded in 1934 (Cunard Line founded 1840; White Star Line founded 1845), and was bought out to become Cunard Line in 1949; the Queen Mary was launched in 1936 and retired in 1967 (now permanently moored in California); the Queen Elizabeth was launched in 1938 as the largest luxury ocean liner of the time and was retired in 1968.
The Art Deco style Chrysler Building was built in 1930 as the tallest building in the world (overtaken by the Empire State Building in 1931).
